the photo above on their website! It is a photo that I took at Katie & Kevin’s wedding this past September
(which I still have to blog about). While uploading, I instantly had a smile because it reminded me of the movie Lord of the Rings.

Happy New Year!
With another year over and a new year that has just begun, I wanted to share with you some exciting news and a few changes that I am making for the Year of 2011.

For starters, I would like to thank everyone whom left a review for me, spread the word about me, or have supported me through the years. Without you, I wouldn’t be where I am today and I wouldn’t have the courage to go where I am going to go tomorrow. I feel so blessed to be doing something that I love. Something that is my passion. Because of all of you, I was voted the best of weddings on the weddingchannel.com and theknot.com! I am so, so honored and it is all because you, my clients. I can not find a way to thank you enough (more on this in a few weeks)….

As most of you know, I am based in Minnesota, but will travel anywhere to photograph a beautiful couple. I know that there are many, many choices out there for photographers, but I really wanted to set myself apart that would take me from not only a Twin Cities photographer, but an international and destination photographer.

As part of my branding process, I decided that I really needed some beautiful material to send out to all potentional couples. Something unique, something eye catching, but most importantly, something that is true to whom I am and my style. Something that would help brides & grooms visualize themselves in my images. Showcasing some sample images while sharing a little about myself with my clients. These little packets are a labor of my love (which include handmade envelopes by me). I’ve been looking and looking for some really great marketing materials, but nothing was getting my attention. I gave my CS rep Nicole a call at ACI Lab and asked for her help and guidance. She got me pointed in the right direction, and I took it from there. I just ADORE Nicole, and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE ACI.

This year is to be the best yet for me and includes some weddings with incredibly beautiful couples in gorgeous settings from Napa, CA to right down the road from me- promised with a crazy- fun display of fireworks and cigars. This summer will be excellent and I am just so excited for all my couples!
Here’s to 2011…

Bees & Blossoms {final thoughts- part III}

This has been such a wonderful day for me! I am so, so honored to be featured on the Wedding Chicks blog. I really can not say enough thank you’s to the amazing vendors who helped me out, because if it wasn’t for you, bee’s and blossoms would not have happened. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

I need to thank my models, Cassie & Wade. You played the part. You inspired me. You both were beautiful. Your interaction with each other was perfect. Intimate. Romantic.
Without you guys being yourselves, I don’t believe I would have had as much fun as I did. I would not have been able to be myself and do what I love to do. Create. Capture moments and memories. Thank you.

To Kathie {my Mom}, Amy, Shannon, Sarah, and Jenny. You were my rocks when things started to go south. In the end, you made everything run smoothly, and there is NO WAY I could have done this without each of you. I can’t wait for the next shoot….

Bees & Blossoms {Details- Part II}

Details. I love them. Everything about them. Once I knew what I wanted in this shoot, I called upon some very talented vendors. I mean some really talented vendors. They make details their way of life. Amazing details. Beyond anything I could have ever imagined.

Let me start with Rosy Posy Designs. She created a headpiece for this shoot called Busy Bee head band. It not only was very pretty, but worked perfectly for this shoot.

Lisa who owns Perch52 on Etsy, is so talented. Not a single detail is left out of any piece of her work. Each piece is prepped, wrapped and sculpted by her hands. If you are in need of a unique cake topper or maybe a unique boutonniere idea, your search is over….

Jenny DeLang, an amazingly talented independent artist from San Francisco, CA, hand crafted all the paper and guest gift details. She paper mached bees and created the flowers out of vintage piano music paper from the mobiles hanging in the trees by vintage ribbon. She used the same bees & added an apple blossom on top of all the gift boxes that included handmade honey soap. All the boxes were finished on the inside with a hand painted honey comb design. The lid was finished off with vintage pink ribbon. The menu was created to look like a honey comb as well- featuring a menu of honey inspired items. She included a custom crafted guest book featuring a paper mached bee, apple tree branch, and blossom to match the gift boxes. All the bees and paper blossoms were hand painted and no two are exactly alike.

Cassie carried pretty soft pink and white peonies. Several square vases were placed around the table and guest book area with beautiful shades of pink ranunculus accented with limes. They were created by a small independent flower designer, Shannon Earle. A tall vase greeted the guests as they arrived and signed the guest book.

My Mother offered up her china, crystal, and tableware. They are a family heirloom and are about 60-70 years old.

The reception area included a small place where guests could mingle and play a little tic-tac-toe before dinner. A few bee boxes stacked together created the table and included an old piano stool (about 100 years old) and a vintage wire chair for guests to relax on.

The desert table included a beehive honey cake, tiny bugs as individual cakes for guests, and jars of classic Bit-O-Honey candies and Honey Stixs. The honey cake had hand crafted marzipan bees laid on it looking like they were busy collecting nectar.

The dinner was rounded out by some yummy Mexican Sangria. Recipe courtesy of Jose Villa and Joel Serrato.

Bees & Blossoms {inspiration to reality- part I}

Bees & Blossoms.
It started with a song.
The inspiration started in the car listening to Lady Antebellums’ song “American Honey”. Honey made me think of bees, which made me think of the blooming apple trees. I then thought how wonderful would it be for a couple to have a wedding and small reception amongst the blooming apple trees in the spring. The thought became a reality in this charming “Bees and Blossoms” theme. I had a great team of vendors whom collaborated with me to make this such a success. The entire shoot was styled by me and my really great friend, Jenny De Lang. We had a blast and you may just see us style more weddings and events in the future!

Everything was lined up. All the amazing details were in place. The vendors involved were ready to rock. My real life husband and wife team were ready to model. And then it rained. And rained. And rained. I was constantly watching the weather, and every channel kept saying that the rain was to clear up around 12:00 pm. We were to start decorating around 2:00 pm. Then, the clouds broke. Just in time. It was perfect….

Despite the fierce wind we had all week, the apple trees were beautiful and in full bloom.

Cassie, you are so beautiful, and Sarah, you did an amazing job on her makeup. You made her eyes pop. Pure genius. The girls at City Image Salon gave Cassie’s hair a very elegant look… Beautiful!

Wade was wearing a beautiful vintage suit courtesy of Monkey Suit Vintage. If only I knew about them when I got married… How nice would it be to have all the guys styling in their vintage suits?
Cassie was wearing a unique Lazaro design from about 6 years ago. A hand sewn brown, velvet shawl added a nice touch to her dress.

The table was set to perfection. Not a single detail was left out {more on the details in part II, but here is a tiny peek}

A Romantic Country Scene {Just Because}…

I love the mountains. Everything about them. If there was one thing I could have changed about this shoot, it would be to have photographed this very romantic, country session in the mountains of the west. Anywhere in the West. But since I live in Minnesota, no where near the mountains, I will wait until I get the opportunity to photograph a mountain/ranch wedding or just because session. Until that time, I will continue to take my beautiful clients to the hills near my house to capture love like this!

Jamie & Pat, you guys are beautiful together. So full of love and honor for each other. So easy to photograph because your love shows. In every picture. Look where you have come in the 5 years you have been together. It seems like I just took your wedding pictures yesterday, but it has been almost 2 years already! My how time flies…

Now, as you guys are about to open a new chapter in your lives, may these pictures help you to remember this time and the love you share at this moment. I’m sure that you can’t imagine that you will be able to love one another any more then you already do, but in 20 years, may you look back on these pictures with more love in your hearts then you do right now…

Maybe you will still be a little playful at times…

and may you still have some steamy moments…

Opps, I fell behind {but warmed my heart in the meantime}…

Oh my, have I fallen behind on this blog thing….

Really, I like blogging, and it seems like the last two weeks just flew by.

Lot’s of exciting things have happened since I posted my last entry. Not only have I been shooting, but I did something that made me feel really good- on the inside. It just really warms my heart and makes me smile. I just couldn’t wait to talk about this. In fact, it brings tears to my eyes. Not in a bad way, but because of all the emotion I feel for doing this. I was able to donate my talents for someone else. I feel like I may have made a difference. I heard about this benefit for Scott LeDoux (a Minnesota Boxer) on Friday night and I decided to donate a complete wedding package. Now Scott has a horrific disease, ALS. The package went to the highest bidder which included up to 8 hours of my time, an engagement e-session, custom built website, and a 9×12 art album. This is my passion, and I feel so good about the donation. Not only do I feel good about doing this, but I am able to give a couple beautiful wedding pictures.

Below, is a little information on ALS. I have not had anybody directly affected by this disease, but I have known a few families who have been affected. I took this right off of the website put together for Scott.

ALS, also known as Lou Gehrigs disease, is a progressive disease that attacks the motor neurons making even the simplest movements – walking, talking, gesturing, swallowing – nearly impossible. When motor neurons die, they can no longer send messages to the muscles. This breakdown in sending nerve impulses to the muscles is what causes the weakness in the disease.
To date, no one knows what causes the death of the motor neurons in ALS or exactly how it occurs.
ALS can occur from 20-80 years of age. The most common age of onset is mid-50′s. Approximately 30,000 people in the United States are living with the disease. It claims some 5,600 lives each year.
